happy valentines day!

OK. four minutes to tell you about one of the most spectacular places I have ever visited. Whew here I go. So we got the El Chalten,  and it was mighty blustery. the next day we trekked about 9 km to a campground at the bottom of the andes, we made some rice set up camp and went to bed. The next two days consisted of us sitting in our farty tent due to the rain and wind. We made the best of it by reading, sleeping, and Dylan recounting the first two books of lord of the rings to me. Then, on the third day, the rain cleared and our passage to the top of the laguna tres lagos was open. we hiked 2 km straight up and were rewarded with a gorgeous view of fitz royy, glaciers,. waterfalls, and valleys...it was breathtaking. we then hoipped on down the mountain for some delicious beer and dinner! viva el chalten!

Meat is for dinner.

after reading about butch cassidy and eda places adventures in argentina we decided we had it too easy sitting in our hammocks by the trout filled creek. so on with the crampons (spike shoes) and into the glacier we went. it was  icy... and pretty cool ;) after getting our fill of glacial water and whiskey on the glacier ice rocks we moved to a more distant location. here we used our psychic powers to trigger the breakage of hydrogen and oxygen atoms at key positions... thus causing massive ice blocks to flop into lago argentino.
all this work and we were hungry, so ginger says "lets get argentinean barbecue!"
3 plates of lamb... tongue, wool, and all and here we are fat and ready for the hammock again. que le diviertas!

El Calafate

camping in calafate.
the last 3 days have been full of birds, calafate berries, and a selection of the most rediculous mate gourds one could wish for...
in general this town is a bit too touristy for us. espensive and busy, so we will be heading north to el chalten in hopes of higher climbs and free er camping. tomorrow, though, the glacier trek.
